German: Bavarian Sauerkraut

Ingredients:

Procedure:

  1. Drain sauerkraut, set aside
  2. Fry bacon in pan, finely chop the bacon when done, set aside
  3. Cook onions in remaining bacon fat until soft (about 3 minutes)
  4. Sprinkle sugar on top, stir, and let caramelize slightly (about 1-2 minutes)
  5. Add sauerkraut, apples, caraway seeds, and vinegar; stir well, cover, simmer for about 30 minutes
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste
